Types of CCTV Cameras

CCTV cameras are divided and categorized according to the body or shape of the camera.

Box Cameras

Box cameras are professional grade CCTV cameras that have a box shaped body. They are flexible and can use different types and sizes of lenses. Because of this capability, they can be used to monitor objects from virtually any distance. Although intended for indoor use, they can be installed outdoor if they are housed in waterproof casings.

Bullet Cameras

As its name suggests, bullet cameras are contained inside bullet shaped housing. Most of these are weatherproof and sealed so their lenses cannot be changed. Their advantage is their small size and integrated design. Some have infrared LEDs built-in which is a perfect complement when installing them outdoors where light may be limited.

Board Cameras

Board cameras are basically fixed lenses mounted on a printed circuit board. These cameras may be packed inside small cases (miniature cameras), placed inside dome shaped casings (dome cameras) or sold as is for mounting in any case a client finds suitable. The lenses of these cameras may have a normal or pinhole aperature. Board cameras with pinhole lenses are often called spy cameras because even their lens can be hidden from plain sight.

Dome Cameras

Among all CCTV cameras, the most popular and best selling cameras are dome cameras. These cameras blend well with surroundings and are great for monitoring residential houses, retail stores, business offices, lobbies, gas stations and other similar areas.

Covert Cameras

Covert cameras or spy cameras are board cameras that are placed inside non-traditional camera cases. The board camera inside is premounted and usually has a wide angle of view. The most popular of these are smoke detector and motion detector cameras.
