Video Baluns and Accessories
CCTV video baluns also known as UTP baluns or video transceivers allow coaxial cable to be replaced by cat 5 UTP cable and other forms of twisted pair wires. For long distances, using video baluns is more cost-effective than using coaxial cable as video from up to four cameras can be transmitted over a single UTP cable. There are two types of video baluns: active baluns and passive baluns. Passive video baluns are UTP video transceivers that are not powered. If video is to be transmitted not longer than 500 meters, then passive baluns are suitable. Active baluns on the other hand are video baluns that require power. These baluns can act as repeaters and allow video to be transmitted over cat 5 cable for distances up to 2 kilometers.
