Magnetic Lock Brackets

Depending on the type of door, some magnetic lock installations need a bracket to hold either the armature plate of the magnetic lock or the magnetic lock itself. The terminology used by most magnetic lock manufacturers is confusing at first. This gives information on which bracket to use for each door type.

Pull to Open Door

A pull to open door, also called an outswing door, is a door that swings in away from the person opening. If the frame of a pull to open door is wide enough to accomodate both the lock and the door then additional bracket is needed for a magnetic lock installation. If however it has a narrow frame, then an L bracket needs to be used. The pictures below show typical installations for a pull to open door. The left image shows a wide frame door (no bracket needed) while the right shows a narrow frame door (l-bracket needed).

Push to Open Door

A push to open door, also called an inswing door, is a door that swings out toward the person opening. For this type of door, an LZ bracket needs to be used to hold the armature plate of the magnetic lock. The image below shows the use of an LZ bracket for a push to open door.

Frameless Glass Door

A frameless glass door is a door made from glass alone. This type is mostly found in entrances of modern buildings. A U bracket is needed to install the armature plate of the magnetic lock onto the door.
